Flying Squirrels Defeat Mudcats, 4-3
|
The Richmond Flying Squirrels beat the Carolina Mudcats, 4-3. Richmond pitcher and Mérida, Mexico, native Wilson Malave led the way. Jace Brennan notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now sits at 1-1. The Flying Squirrels raised their record to 15-22.
Coming to the plate with two out in the bottom of the tenth inning, Richmond third baseman Waki Matsui had a chance to be the hero. Facing Carolina pitcher David Silva with the bases empty, Matsui hit a walk-off solo home run.
"It was terrific getting this win," Matsui said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
