Royals Sneak Past Cubs, 7-6
|
The Kansas City Royals weathered a fine game by Chicago left fielder Josh Kalman to upend the Cubs, 7-6, at Wrigley Field. Kalman went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Kansas City reliever Chris Irvin picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Rich Ortega was saddled with the loss. Bryan Boykin got credit for the save for Kansas City. It was his 1st of the year.
In the top of the sixth inning, Adriaan Pieters went deep for the Royals. With Kansas City trailing 5-1, he drilled a grand slam home run.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Pieters, "but we got it done."
The victory gives Kansas City a record of 18-17.
