Phillies Rally to Eke Out Win
|
Philadelphia picked up a win at Turner Field, toppling the Atlanta Braves, 5-4. Pitcher Ayaz bin Jalal was one of the reasons the Phillies triumphed. Randy Karnes, credited with the win, is now 3-3. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit. Rico Saldarriaga got the save, the 2nd for him this season.
Philadelphia used the clutch hitting of Jeff Luvisi to capture the win. The pinch hitter drilled a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Phillies ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a big one.
Luvisi expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
The third-place Phillies improved to 17-21.
