Nationals Drop Giants, 8-3
|
The Washington Nationals beat the San Francisco Giants, 8-3. Washington pitcher and St. Helens, England, native Reece Nichols led the way. In 5.1 innings, Nichols surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. With the victory, the Nationals upped their record to 21-20.
R.J. O'Brien, the 32-year old left fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. O'Brien contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Washington up, 2-0.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Nichols. "Successful pitchers do it."
