5-for-5 Day for Griffin
|
After a 5-hit effort to lead Los Angeles (NYP)'s 27-1 victory over the Idaho Falls Chukars, center fielder Jon Griffin told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the New York-Penn League-level is really something special."
The 20-year-old player earned his accolades today at Melaleuca Field with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Chukars.
"His swing is getting there," said Angels skipper Cory Spangenberg, who spoke glowingly of Griffin after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Jon did that to perfection today."
Jon Griffin singled in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 1st, walked in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th and was hit by a pitch in the 7th.
So far in 2044 Griffin is batting .279 with 2 home runs, 42 RBIs and 29 runs scored. He has 69 hits in 247 at-bats and a .320 OBP.
