Phillies Win at Atlanta, 8-5
|
The Philadelphia Phillies overcame a fine performance by Atlanta designated hitter Jake Lang to defeat the Braves, 8-5, at Turner Field. Lang was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winning pitcher was Mike Kamm. He tossed 106 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits. Randy Karnes closed the door for Philadelphia, picking up his 6th save of the year.
Philadelphia used the clutch hitting of Eric Katz to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Phillies the lead, 7-3. For the game, Katz had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
"When I'm in the lineup, I always feel like we're going to win the game," said Katz.
Philadelphia is now 19-22.
