Mariners Curb Blue Jays, 3-2
|
Seattle starter Angel Contreras had a strong outing against the Toronto Blue Jays at Safeco Field. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 3-2 win. Seattle reliever William Cordero picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Timo Lantinga was saddled with the loss. David Sly earned the save for Seattle, his 9th of the year.
In the bottom of the sixth, Seattle designated hitter Steve Bartman Jr. gave his team the lead. With two out and a runner on 2nd, Punchy hit his 3rd home run of the year. Toronto pitcher Timo Lantinga surrendered it. With that, the Mariners jumped in front, 2-1.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Contreras told the Seattle Observer.
The Mariners have an impressive 34-20 record.
