Cubs Win at St. Louis, 8-6
|
Chicago second baseman Elijah Campbell was a significant contributor in his team's 8-6 triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals. He went 4 for 4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Chicago. Picking up the win was Nate Jackson. He went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. The right--hander struck out 6 and walked 2. George Poirier locked down his 16th save.
With Chicago leading 5-1 in the top of the fourth, Campbell hit a 2-run double off St. Louis hurler Doug Nickey. It was the 20th double of the season for Campbell and put his team ahead, 7-1.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Campbell said.
With the win, Chicago raised its record to 53-21.
