New York Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in R2
The New York Mets moved to within one game of the League Championship Series today, downing the visiting San Diego Padres at Citi Field by a score of 3-1. Mets left-hander Lewis Thorpe Jr. had a strong outing in which he threw 6.2 innings allowing 1 runs. The win gives the Mets a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Division Series.

Had Harry Hoop not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Hoop hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Mets.

"We lost," San Diego manager Robert Yoka said later. "We'll deal with it. The series isn't over."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Citi Field in New York.
