Marlins Lose to Mets in Walk Off
|
The home crowd was treated to a thrilling, walk-off win.
The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins, 7-6, at Citi Field. The Mets got a fine performance from center fielder Gus Berry, who went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Ron Hawkins, now 4-4, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings.
Nelle van den Berg electrified the crowd in the bottom of the 11th when he took Miami pitcher Chris Nickerson deep. His solo home run sent the Mets home winners.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," van den Berg said.
The Mets, now 56-35, have won 5 in a row.
