No Mercy for Athletics in 15-1 Pounding
|
Getting a good performance from right fielder Rich Stinson, the Texas Rangers defeated the Oakland Athletics, 15-1. Stinson went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for the Rangers. Wayne Perry, the winner, improved to 9-2. He held Oakland to 1 run on 6 hits over 8.2 innings, while racking up 9 strikeouts. With the win, Texas upped its record to 65-33.
The Rangers got an important contribution from third baseman Edwin Madrid, who in the bottom of the second hit a sinker into center for a 3-run home run. It was his 17th home run of the season and put the Rangers ahead, 4-0.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Texas manager Juan Smith.
