Diamondbacks Drop Cubs, 9-6
|
The Arizona Diamondbacks weathered a fine game by Chicago catcher Steve Bui to upend the Cubs, 9-6, at Wrigley Field. Bui went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Murphy Quirk, the winning pitcher, is now 4-0. He went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 6 and walking 2. The win gives Arizona a season record of 65-40.
Alec Thorpe, the 2036 Rookie of the Year Award winner , had a direct impact on the outcome. Thorpe contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the fourth inning to put Arizona up, 4-3.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Thorpe.
