Cubs Beat Cleveland, 4-3
|
The Chicago Cubs picked up a win at Progressive Field, knocking off the Cleveland Indians, 4-3. On the mound for Chicago was left-hander Unkei Wakamatsu, who played a pivotal role in the win. Chicago reliever Eric Oakes picked up the win, raising his record to 3-1. Hector Guerrero was tagged with the loss. George Poirier, credited with the save, is now 26 for 26 in save opportunities.
Chicago needed the clutch hitting of Art Kent to notch the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cubs on top, 4-3. For the game, Kent had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"Unkei was pounding the zone," said Chicago manager Mergatroid Skittle.
The win elevated the Cubs to 79-37.
