Pirates Slap 6-5 Loss on Cubs
|
Josh Kalman did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Chicago Cubs from losing, 6-5, to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field. Kalman was 2-3 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Jeremy Kennie was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 9 hits, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Steve Grier earned his 33rd save in 36 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Pittsburgh, had it not been for Steve Jordan, the three-time Great Glove Award winner . Jordan contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Pittsburgh up, 6-4.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Pittsburgh manager Michael Jank.
The third-place Pirates go to 66-69.
