The first-place Washington Nationals picked up another win.
The Washington Nationals defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-3, in National League action at Nationals Park. Washington pitcher Chitoji Takemoto had a standout performance. Takemoto got the win, improving to 9-4. He allowed 8 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. Takemoto allowed 3 runs. Brian Ramirez earned his 6th save in 7 tries.
John Sanders, the Washington second baseman, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 4-3, Nationals. For the game, Sanders was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Washington manager Mike Shore.
