Baird Gets 5 Hits
Fans at Nationals Park got to see not only a home-team victory today, but also one of the most impressive feats of hitting of the season.

The Washington Nationals outplayed the Chicago Cubs en route to a 23-3 win, but the standout was right fielder Tommy Baird. Baird netted 5 hits in 6 at-bats and finished with a dynamite game line.

"Hey, we tried everything we could think of to get him out," Cubs manager Mergatroid Skittle said in postgame comments. "We threw everything but the kitchen sink against him and he hit it. Maybe we should've thrown the sink, too."

Tommy Baird hit a solo-shot off Randy Budgell in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.

In his season totals Baird has 17 home runs and a .280 batting average.
