Barrett Bewilders Hooks, 5-0
|
The Corpus Christi Hooks had no answer today for Montgomery Biscuits pitcher Steve Barrett. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 5-0. Corpus Christi managed only 3 hits off Barrett, who had 17 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Barrett got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Biscuits fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
This season Barrett has compiled a 7-1 mark with a 2.80 ERA.
