Naturals, Cornishen Silence Birmingham, 5-0
Sunday, July 10th , 2044
The Northwest Arkansas Naturals shut out the Birmingham Barons 5-0 today behind the strong pitching of Josh Cornishen. Cornishen surrendered only 4 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 6.
Following the last out, Cornishen appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Birmingham manager Fred Hayner, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Cornishen's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Barons skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Naturals press conference, Cornishen confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Cornishen said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Northwest Arkansas manager Zac Rosscup added.
This year Cornishen has recorded a 9-6 mark. In 21 starts he has fanned 85 batters in 134 innings with a 2.75 ERA.
