Potomac Nationals first baseman Shinji Adachi put on a dazzling display of power today at LoanMart Field against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. In the 23-4 Nationals victory Adachi penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.

"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Rancho Cucamonga manager Devon Travis said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."

Along with his three home runs, the 26-year-old had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Adachi said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."

Shinji Adachi hit a two-run home run off Adonis Loyd in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Jeremy Stock in the 2nd, struck out in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, walked in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off George Credle in the 7th.

Adachi is presently hitting at a .216 pace with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs. He has played in 15 games and scored 7 times.
