Byerly Goes on Rampage Against Hammerheads
Monday, December 28th , 2043
After a 5-hit effort to lead Charlotte's 26-0 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads, first baseman Steve Byerly told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the California Winter League-level is really something special."

The 19-year-old player earned his accolades today at Roger Dean Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Hammerheads.

"His swing is getting there," said Stone Crabs skipper Stephen Vogt, who spoke glowingly of Byerly after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Steve did that to perfection today."

Steve Byerly doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit a sac fly in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, grounded out in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

So far this season Byerly is batting .292 with 1 home run, 16 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has 31 hits in 106 at-bats, 10 walks and a .347 OBP. Byerly has played in 30 games.
