Dunn Cracks 5 Hits
Friday, May 20th , 2044
The Clinton LumberKings downed the Cedar Rapids Kernels 14-6 today at Ashford University Field, in spite of the best efforts of Cedar Rapids catcher Matt Dunn. Dunn lashed the ball all over the park in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with a 5-for-5 line -- and a loss.
"I don't remember a better day batting, but it sure is disappointing to lose the game," he said to BNN reporters in the postgame interview. "A win would have made the day much sweeter."
Asked if he would adjust his strategy next time the LumberKings face Dunn, Clinton manager Vance Cobb said "absolutely not."
"Our strategy was to not give him good pitches to hit," he said. "We didn't do that, and he worked us over. Thankfully, we won anyway, and next time we'll pitch to him better."
Matt Dunn doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Rentaro Minami in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off Rentaro Minami in the 9th.
This season Dunn is batting .303 with 8 home runs. He has scored 26 runs and driven in 32.
