Suspensions Handed Out for Bench-Clearing Brawl

After an intense confrontation, both the Braves Alex Velasquez and the Black Bears Ian Toney were handed their punishments today. The league commissioner's office issued suspensions for an on-the-field conflict that occurred at a recent Rome-West Virginia game. Alex Velasquez will miss 2 games, while Ian Toney was suspended for 6 games.
"Sometimes we go too far and have to pay the consequences," Alex Velasquez commented later. "Hopefully cooler heads will prevail the next time we play."
Thus far this season Velasquez is hitting .288 with 7 home runs, 72 RBIs and 93 runs scored. He has 133 hits in 462 at-bats and has played in 129 games.
This season Toney has worked 138.2 innings with 173 strikeouts en route to a 9-7 record and a 3.18 ERA.
