Wildcard Series Goes the Distance, Detroit Prevails
Saturday, October 8th , 2044
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Comerica Park as the Wildcard Series stretched to the final game.

It was the Detroit Tigers feeling the thrill of victory, with a 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Division Series.

"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Seattle manager Aaron Schiff. "Congratulations to Detroit, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."

Instrumental in the 2-1 series win was center fielder Victor Quinones, who was named MVP. He hit .500 with a .462 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 3 runs.

"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.

The Detroit Tigers will play against the Chicago White Sox in the next round. Chicago had a bye in the Wildcard Series. The Division Series schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Series finishes.
