Hot Bat Cooled, Rios Hitless Against Seminoles
Monday, December 26th , 2044
Late in the game, all eyes in Ballpark of Memphis were on Roberto Rios as he stepped into the batter box. His 26-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Rios, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end.
If there was a silver lining for Rios today, it was that his University of Minnesota Golden Gophers won the game anyway, stopping the Florida State University Seminoles by the score of 8-3.
"Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Rios told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 26 straight games. It's something I will always remember."
This season Rios has delivered 106 hits in 280 at-bats for a .379 average with 8 home runs. He is getting on base at a .479 clip and his totals also include 43 RBIs and 66 runs scored. This year Rios has played in 79 games.
