Santiago, Pelicans Clobber Quakes, 12-0
|
Things keep getting worse for Rancho Cucamonga.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans bested the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a score of 12-0, with center fielder Tony Santiago getting the main credit. On the day, Santiago went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Pelicans. Edgar Valdez earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 1-1. Leo Loetzsch recorded the save for Myrtle Beach, his 1st of the season.
There was more than one reason the Pelicans beat the Quakes, but Santiago's big at-bat in the bottom of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run double.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Santiago.
The victory makes Myrtle Beach 9-12.
