Richmond Gets 10-8 Win
|
The Richmond Flying Squirrels trumped the Clearwater Threshers, 10-8, at Bright House Field. Richmond center fielder Mario Maria was terrific. He went 3 for 5 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Wilson Malave earned the win to go to 2-1. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, with 3 walks and 1 strikeout in 5 innings of work. Jace Brennan picked up the save for Richmond, his 3rd of the year.
A key moment came with two out in the top of the sixth. That's when Flying Squirrels second baseman Jake Schmiege hit a fastball from Arturo Gomez for a run-scoring single, putting Richmond up, 6-4.
"We came out aggressive," said Flying Squirrels manager Jorge Piedra. "We came out swinging the bats."
The Flying Squirrels have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 7th win in 22 games.
