Nationals Earn 9-8 Win Versus Mets
|
Washington shortstop Luis Torres helped his team beat the New York Mets, 9-8. Torres, who is tied for 6th in the NL in doubles with 11, went 3 for 4 for the Nationals. Washington reliever Keith Pratt got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Ron Hawkins was tagged with the loss. The win puts Washington at 29-9 this season.
The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Washington trailing 8-7, John Sanders hit a fastball from Ron Hawkins for a 2-run home run, giving the Nationals the walk-off win.
"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Mike Shore.
