Nationals Down Mets, 6-5
|
Kevin Bellman did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the New York Mets from losing, 6-5, to the Washington Nationals at Citi Field. Bellman went 4 for 5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Keith Pratt picked up the win in relief for Washington, while Sam Schrecengost took the loss. The win puts Washington at 34-11 this season.
Washington used the timely hitting of John Sanders to capture the win. The second baseman socked a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Nationals ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Sanders, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
