The New York Yankees picked up a win at Comerica Park, knocking off the Detroit Tigers, 5-2. Starting pitcher James Woods Jr. played a key role in the triumph. Woods Jr. got the win, improving to 3-6. He allowed 4 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. Woods Jr. allowed 1 run. Francisco Rivas recorded the save, his 4th.
The outcome might have been different for New York, had it not been for Bartholomeu Chambino, the eight-time Great Glove Award winner . Chambino stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put New York up, 3-1. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"James was throwing strikes, locating well," said New York manager Carl Arnold.
New York goes to 23-28, Detroit to 27-23.
