Astros Snatch Late Win
|
Behind the hitting of Joe Gardner, the Houston Astros stopped the Kansas City Royals, 8-6. Gardner went 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Astros. The win was credited to Jordan Ruiz in relief. His record improves to 1-0. John Hall took the loss. Kyle McPeak notched his 5th save in 6 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Houston, had it not been for Bryce Hill, the former first round draft pick . Hill contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Houston up, 6-5.
"We'll savor this win," Gardner told the Houston Today, "then get ready for the next game."
The Astros sport a record of 26-41.
