5-Hit Game for Vander Klok
|
After a 5-hit effort to lead Batavia's 24-0 victory over the Eugene Emeralds, second baseman J.D. Vander Klok told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the New York-Penn League-level is really something special."
The 20-year-old player earned his accolades today at Dwyer Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Emeralds.
"His swing is getting there," said Muckdogs skipper Connor Kaden, who spoke glowingly of Vander Klok after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. J.D. did that to perfection today."
J.D. Vander Klok hit a three-run home run off Bernard Grose in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, struck out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
Vander Klok is batting .287 with 7 home runs and 57 RBIs this season.
