Braves Spurrell Strikes out 16
|
Led by an outstanding performance from starter Matthew Spurrell, the Rome Braves topped the Eugene Emeralds today by a score of 24-0 at State Mutual Stadium. The 20-year-old Spurrell brought his top game to the mound, striking out 16 batters while allowing 3 hits and giving up 1 walk.
"He made a lot of good pitches out there," Emeralds manager Seaver Whalen said. "He made some of our guys look bad. We didn't help matters, but we really have to give him credit -- he didn't make many mistakes."
On his stats sheet for the year Spurrell shows a 10-3 record, 20 starts, 125 innings, 159 strikeouts and a 3.10 ERA.
