Miami Loses, 7-6, Despite Bailey Performance
|
The New York Mets overcame a good performance by Miami right fielder Eric Bailey to knock off Miami, 7-6, at Citi Field. Bailey hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. New York reliever Ron Hawkins picked up the win, upping his record to 4-3. Adam Bonawitz shouldered the loss. Xu-gang Zhou was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 8 of 10 save opportunities.
Had Kevin Bellman not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Bellman hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Mets.
"This is a very good team," said Bellman. "We have the chance to do something special."
The triumph puts New York at 41-26 for the season.
