Colorado Beats New York in Extra Innings
|
The Colorado Rockies topped the New York Mets by a score of 5-2. Leading the way was first baseman Joel Haycock. Haycock was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Rockies. The winner in relief was Mike Chapman. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. He now owns a record of 4-0. This win makes it 6 in a row for Colorado.
Haycock had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a 1-2 fastball from Ron Hawkins, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Rockies a 5-2 lead. It was the 11th home run of the year for Haycock.
"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Haycock told the Colorado Observer.
