The St. Louis Cardinals got a magnificent performance from pitcher Billy McIntyre, who stifled the Atlanta offense en route to a 2-1 Cardinals win at Busch Stadium. McIntyre got the win, improving to 2-2. He allowed 3 hits and walked 1 over 5.2 innings. McIntyre allowed 1 run. Bryan Banana was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 3 save opportunities.
The Cardinals got a big at-bat from right fielder Frank Hill. For the game, Hill was 1 for 3 with a home run. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 11th home run of the season gave St. Louis a 2-1 lead.
"I know we have our doubters," said Atlanta manager Andres Wray II. "But I still have high hopes for this team."
The victory puts St. Louis at 24-45.
