Blue Jays Prevail, 2-1, Over Montreal
|
The Toronto Blue Jays racked up a win at Rogers Centre, bumping off the Montreal Expos, 2-1. Tony Rios, who started for Toronto, pitched effectively for his team. The winning pitcher was Rios, now 6-6. He tossed 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 6. Bobby Wright was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 9 of 11 save opportunities.
In the bottom of the third, Michael Byrd hit a 2-run home run. The 6th home run of the season for the Toronto second baseman put the Blue Jays on top, 2-0.
"We scored one run," said Montreal manager Robb Dixon. "You're not gonna get a lot of Ws scoring just one run."
The second-place Expos have lost 4 straight games.
