The St. Louis Cardinals had to overcome a fine effort from Chicago pitcher Randy Budgell to grab a narrow 2-1 win at Busch Stadium. Budgell went 7.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. St. Louis reliever Chad Steffee picked up the win to move to 2-5. Randy Budgell suffered the loss. Bryan Banana recorded the save, making him 5 for 7.
St. Louis took a 2-1 lead on Ben Rubenacker's 8th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Chicago pitcher Randy Budgell in the bottom of the seventh.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Rubenacker said.
The win has St. Louis at 28-50.
