Pirates Collect 7-6 Win Over Marlins
|
Miami got a terrific game from right fielder Dan Zink. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Pittsburgh, 7-6. Zink went 4-6 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Pittsburgh, at 38-41, sits in third place in the National League Central Division.
Pittsburgh used the timely hitting of Mike Thornton to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 13th inning to put the Pirates on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Thornton, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
