Diamondbacks Clip Giants, 5-4
|
San Francisco got a terrific game from right fielder John Blair. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Arizona, 5-4. Blair was 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Arizona has run its win streak to 5 in a row.
Arizona used the timely hitting of Joe Smack to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Diamondbacks on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We had a chance to win," said San Francisco manager Jobo Foster, "but we didn't get it done."
