Nationals Need Extras to Top Cubs, Lead 2-1 in Series
|
When the games really matter, the Washington Nationals put on their best show, beating the Chicago Cubs by a final score of 3-2 today. Yasuhide Kasahara went 2-3 with a double and 4 walks. He scored 2 runs. Washington now leads Chicago 2-1 in the best-of-5 affair.
Washington needed the clutch hitting of Junzo Kato to notch the win. The third baseman hammered a solo home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Nationals on top, 3-2. For the game, Kato had 1 home run and 2 singles in 6 at-bats.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Washington manager Mike Shore told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
