Bates Helps Pittsburgh Cruise to 11-1 Win
|
In baseball, each game is unique. This one was no different.
The Pittsburgh Pirates thumped the Los Angeles Dodgers, 11-1, at Dodger Stadium. Mike Bates was a big reason his team got the win. Bates went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 4 times and drove in 2. Sam Richardson got the win, improving to 7-3. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 2 hits and no runs, while striking out 9 and walking 2.
Pittsburgh relied on the hitting of Marvin McAleer to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Pirates on top, 2-0. For the game, McAleer had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"We did a lot of things right," said McAleer.
Pittsburgh occupies third place in the National League Central Division at 42-45.
