Cardinals Get 9-5 Win Versus New York
|
The New York Mets got a superb performance from pitcher Ron Hawkins. Still, it wasn't enough to beat St. Louis. The Cardinals won the game, 9-5. Hawkins came in in relief and pitched to 16 batters. The win gives the Cardinals a record of 31-59.
In the bottom of the first, Antoine Roux hit a 3-run home run. The 14th home run of the season for the St. Louis second baseman put the Cardinals on top, 3-0.
Roux called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
