Yankees Prevail, 4-2, Over Toronto
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays.
The Toronto Blue Jays got a sterling performance from pitcher Tony Rios, but the New York Yankees still prevailed, 4-2. Rios threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball. Francisco Rivas earned the win for New York. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 1-6. Earning the save was Dave Barry. He's now cashed in 1 of 3 save opportunities.
In the top of the ninth, Bob Branham stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Blue Jays were trailing 4-2, but had runners on 2nd and 3rd. That's when Dave Barry made a terrific pitch and Branham flied out. Gone was the dream of a Toronto comeback.
With the win, the Yankees improved to 45-48.
