Arp Hits Two Dingers, Blue Jays Win, 7-1
|
The Toronto Blue Jays topped the New York Yankees by the score of 7-1, with the largest share of the credit going to shortstop Kirk Arp. Arp belted 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for the Blue Jays. Timo Lantinga got the win, improving to 9-4. He held the Yankees to 1 run on 5 hits over 9 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 3. The first-place Blue Jays, at 62-30, now lead their division by 7 games.
Arp had a key at-bat for Toronto early in the game. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was his 26th home run of the season and gave Toronto an early 3-0 lead.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Arp told the Toronto Citizen.
