Codd is a Smash Hit: 4 HR
|
Hitting a single home run is a tough task. Hitting two in a game is impressive. Hitting three is remarkable. Anything beyond that is borderline unbelievable -- yet that's what D.J. Codd did today in the 28-0 Oakland Oaks victory over the Tijuana Toros.
Codd went 4-for-5 with 4 home runs and drove in 8 runs in a once-in-a-lifetime feat that the opposing manager later labeled "impossible."
"I don't believe it really happened," Toros manager Glenn Lovell joked to BNN reporters afterward. "I don't ever enjoy losing a game, but this kid was special today. I have never seen a guy hit 4 in a game before. I didn't enjoy it, but it was special."
D.J. Codd was hit by a pitch in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Clyde Miller in the 2nd, walked in a run in the 4th, struck out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Adam Maczko in the 7th, hit a three-run home run off Adam Maczko in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Adam Maczko in the 8th.
Thus far this season in 50 games Codd is batting .428 with 36 home runs, 81 RBIs and 72 runs scored. He has 65 hits in 152 at-bats.
