The Minnesota Twins got a sterling performance from right fielder Joel Kunkler, but the Pittsburgh Pirates still prevailed, 7-4. Kunkler hit 2 home runs. With the win, Pittsburgh raised its record to 52-50.

Mike Bates aided the Pittsburgh cause with a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth. For the game, the third baseman was 2-5 with a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Bates.
