The New York Yankees got a superb performance from pitcher John Brice. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Montreal. The Expos won the game, 4-3. Brice threw 7.0 innings of 1-hit ball. The win lifted the Montreal record to 63-42.

Montreal used a timely hit from Eugênio Asceno to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Expos ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"It's a satisfying feeling, to win like we did," said Asceno.
