Cardinals Nip Giants, 2-1
|
The San Francisco Giants got a sterling performance from pitcher Nicolas Coppola II, but the St. Louis Cardinals still prevailed, 2-1. Coppola II threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. St. Louis reliever Brent Garland was the winner. His record is now 3-4. Nate Heideman took the loss. The Cardinals go to 36-71 with the win.
It could have been a different outcome for St. Louis, had it not been for Ben Rubenacker, the 31-year old first baseman . Rubenacker contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put St. Louis up, 2-1.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said San Francisco skipper Jobo Foster, "and it cost us."
