Expos Fall Short, 5-4, at Toronto
|
The Toronto Blue Jays overcame a fine performance by Montreal center fielder Austin Ohmer to defeat the Expos, 5-4, at Rogers Centre. Ohmer went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Timo Lantinga, the winning pitcher, improved to 10-6. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 1. Bobby Wright converted his 20th save in 23 tries.
Toronto left fielder Mark Rennie contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a slider into center field for a 2-run single. It was his 86th hit of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 4-2.
Rennie told the media after that game that the mood in the clubhouse is "extremely positive" after a win like that.
The Blue Jays have an impressive 76-46 record.
