Cardinals Lose to Cubs, 6-3
|
The first-place Chicago Cubs took on the St. Louis Cardinals in front of a spirited crowd.
Kevin Norton left his imprint on the 6-3 Chicago win against the St. Louis Cardinals. Norton, who finished 2nd in the NL in runs with 145 in 2040, was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner in relief was Gabe Wagner. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 4.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0.
Norton contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Chicago in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Norton took a fastball from Antonio Perez and stroked the home run to right. His 12th home run of the season allowed the Cubs to leap in front, 3-1.
"I like to lead by example," said Norton. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
With the win, Chicago raised its record to 74-51.
